Something had to change
My story has been in the making since I was a small child. I’ve always admired beauty in various forms—traditional art, painting, drawing and sculpting. And I’m pretty sure I was the only 5th grader who was buying Vogue magazine to study makeup and hair. Instead of paying attention in school, I’d be doodling pictures of intricate eyes with detailed fluffy lashes and perfect brows. I guess this career was always in the cards for me!
I started my first on-location bridal hair and makeup business when I was just 19 years old, worked in the cosmetic sections of department stores, and even studied law and worked as a paralegal for nearly a decade (all while still doing hair and makeup on nights and weekends).
Basically, I was known for burning the candle at both ends… AND in the middle. (Do you know the feeling?) I had tunnel vision, and the end of that tunnel was me doing makeup full-time, but every day leading up to that moment, I could feel myself withering away at my office job.
Hair and makeup have always been my greatest passions, but my journey to starting Simply Gorgeous by Erin was full of twists and turns.
BRIDAL HAIR & MAKEUP
Hey!
A pivotal moment came in May 2009. At this point, I was still working in legal and doing weddings on the weekend. I was on site at a wedding when my phone kept vibrating nonstop with calls and texts. When I could finally peek at my phone, I saw a text from my brother that read “911.” My mom had a stroke.
This stroke forced her into early retirement. The doctors said her stress levels from work brought this on.
You mean working an overly-stressful job could possibly kill you?
Yep—that was my sign. I knew it was time to make my move and pursue what set my soul on fire.
That’s when I gave my notice to corporate and never looked back.
I rushed to the hospital to be by her side. It was a long road to recovery, with months of visiting her at the rehab center or at home, and constantly on pins and needles.
FINALLY, Simply Gorgeous by Erin was born!

After quitting my corporate job, that very next year I left the salon I freelanced for and began my own career doing bridal makeup. I spent most of my time networking with various vendors and even other makeup artists and hairstylists, because I wanted to surround myself with a community of women who were building their own empires. I saw the value and importance in this.
I hired my first employee when my husband and I found out I was pregnant (surprise!) At that time, we were just doing makeup and I was referring my brides out for hair, but I quickly realized that brides wanted a one-stop shop for both. I decided to interview hairstylists and soon we became a full bridal makeup and hair team. Some of these women are still here today!
Simply Gorgeous is now a team of 15 strong employees, known best for our effortless beauty style for brides, and everyday cosmetic services like microblading and skin care, customized to each client. (Your makeup will only look as good as the skin underneath it, after all!) A proper skincare routine with quality products will always be a great investment in your self-confidence.
